Storage Tips & Tricks
1. Maximize Vertical Space
Most of our units feature 13-foot high ceilings—store lighter items on top and heavier items on the bottom for safety and easy acces
2. Protect Your Valuables
Wrap delicate items in bubble wrap, blankets, or furniture pads. Use sturdy, waterproof containers for sensitive items like electronics or documents. Always label boxes clearly.
3.Keep Important Items Accessible
Store essential or time-sensitive items near the front of your unit so you can reach them quickly without unpacking everything.
4. Plan Access Carefully
Place frequently used items near the front of your unit. For items you won’t need for months, store them toward the back to optimize space and convenience.
5. Maintain Proper Airflow
Avoid packing boxes directly against walls or the floor. Small gaps allow airflow, preventing moisture buildup and keeping items in better condition.
6. Store Vehicles and RVs Properly
If you’re storing a car, RV, or boat, ensure it’s clean, dry, and properly maintained. Cover vehicles with breathable tarps and remove batteries if stored for long periods. Big Ten offers dedicated outdoor RV and boat parking for your convenience.
7. Use Uniform Containers
Using similar-sized boxes or bins makes stacking easier and keeps your storage unit organized. Clear containers are helpful for quickly seeing what’s inside.
8. Avoid Overpacking
Don’t overfill boxes or overload shelves. This can cause damage to items and create safety hazards. Keep pathways open in your unit for easy access.
9. Take Advantage of Drive-Up Access
Our drive-up units make loading and unloading faster. Use dollies or carts to move heavy items safely and reduce strain.
